Benue government confirms Naka attack, reveals those behind invasion

The Benue State government has confirmed the attack on Naka, Gwer LGA of the state where over 20 houses were set ablaze.

DAILY POST reports that no fewer than 20 houses were razed down after armed men attacked Naka community.

The state government through the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Titus Zam, said the attack followed,”the act of lawlessness perpetrated by some restive youths in Gwer-West Local Government Area of Benue State.”

Zam said the action of the youths led to the unfortunate death of an officer of the Nigerian Army who was on official assignment in the area.

The Special Adviser expressed sympathy with the Nigerian Army over the unfortunate development and appealed to the military to restrain from ongoing reprisals leading to the burning of several houses in Naka town as two wrongs could not make a right.

He assured the military that the state government was determined to handle the situation in a manner that justice would be done on both sides and prayed for the repose of the fallen soldier.

He reiterated that the armed herdsmen were the common enemy who must be jointly fought and defeated; he called for calm and peaceful co-existence between people of Gwer-West and the Military.
