Chief of Staff of the Biafra Nations Youth League, BNYL, Linus Essien has reiterated that the people of Bakassi will observe the May 30th Biafra Day celebration.
This is contained in a statement he issued on Tuesday.
Essien, who is Leader of Displaced Bakassi Youths, said that the BNYL has gone wide in sensitization within the Bakassi Peninsula, especially areas ceded to Cameroon.
“Whatever we are doing is now line with the BNYL programmes. We are not violent and we have not seen reasons to be”, he noted.
He urged the people of Bakassi to emulate the Igbos, who according to him, have proven to be tired of Nigeria.
“Our people have suffered under Nigerian government, we are no longer regarded as part of Nigeria and in Cameroon we are not welcomed.
“Bakassi lies in the Bight of Biafra, and I am declaring publicly that we are Biafrans by nature,” he said.
Essien further lamented how the Nigeria’s security agencies intimidate members of the group.
“We run our organization’s administration in Bakassi, and we have come under intimidation by Nigerian forces, myself and the BNYL Leader, Princewill Chimezie Richard. But we will overcome”, he said.
