Leah Sharibu: Nigerians call for release of abducted schoolgirl as she turns 15

Nigerians have called for the release of Leah Sharibu, the only remaining Dapchi schoolgirl still being held in Boko Haram captivity, as she marks her 15th birthday.

DAILY POST recalls that the insurgents abducted 110 students on February 19 and released them a month later, with the exception of Sharibu and five students who died in captivity.

She was held back for refusing to renounce her Christian faith.

However, in commemoration of her birthday, Nigerians took to social media to demand the release of the abducted schoolgirl.

Below are comments making this demand as gathered from Twitter by DAILY POST:

@Wakandajewel “Today Leah Sharibu clocks 15 while in the shackles of Boko Haram for refusing to renounce her Faith in Jesus Christ.

“Let’s continue praying for her safe return while Wishing her a happy birthday.”

@Easternshrine “People of Nigeria especially the Christians have stopped asking about Leah Sharibu, the Dapchi girl abducted with others. She’s still in custody.”

@Adagafred “Leah Sharibu” As you add one today we pray the good lord bring you home safe and sound. We have a president more concerned with 2019 but our GOD will sure disgrace him.”

@Ultrascanit “Leah Sharibu marks 15th birthday in Boko Haram custody: That is the sad story of Leah Sharibu whose continued captivity in the hands of Boko Haram insurgents is her price for reportedly not accepting Islam.”

@Glamtush “Yet to be released Dapchi Schoolgirl, Leah Sharibu turns 15 years old today, Monday, May 14, in the captivity of Boko Haram, people who are willing to cause her emotional and physical.”

@247Prayersoot “It’s Leah Sharibu’s 15th birthday today, but she won’t be celebrating with her family. For 84 days she’s been held captive by Boko Haram for refusing to renounce her faith in exchange for her freedom.”

@I_foya “Happy 15th birthday Leah Sharibu. May the lord rescue you from captivity just the way he rescued Daniel from the lion’s den.”

@thebardogbamola “Leah Sharibu, she turns 15 today. Look around you and look at any 15year old, look at what freedom means to them. At age 15, Leah Sharibu already knows what it means to be denied freedom and what it means for your Govt to fail you. Her only crime is standing by her faith!

@Supergirltimidi “What is @MBuhari saying about Leah Sharibu? Has she been forgotten?

@Tolez “Today is Leah Sharibu’s 15th Birthday but she is currently in the hands of Boko Haram terrorists for refusing to renounce her faith in Jesus Christ, I celebrate you today Leah, I pray that you return safely. May God grant your family the needed strength at this time.”
