A former Abia Representative in the Federal Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress,APC, Senator Chris Adighije has called for a total overhauling of security apparatus at the National Assembly complex, expressing disappointment over the incident that occurred at the senate on Wednesday.
The call followed the invasion of the senate during plenary by suspected thugs who snatched the mace.
Speaking to DAILY POST in his Umuahia residence on Thursday evening, Senator Adighije described the invasion of the senate complex by the suspected thugs as condemnable and wondered how the thugs beat the security at the Assembly complex and whisked away the mace.
He said, “It is a strange occurrence. Everybody is wondering what happen to the security in the National Assembly complex. How a rough looking thug will invade the senate and snatch the mace. It is very unfortunate.
“The incident at the senate is difficult for one to understand how it happened. And the security system at the National Assembly complex needs to be overhauled and beefed.
“The action of the thugs is condemnable. I don’t think any Nigerian is happy about it. It was really a sad day for me on that Wednesday it happened.
“Security agencies should conduct a thorough investigation to ascertain how the thugs were allowed access to the senate chamber and whisked away the Mace.”
