Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano has renewed the tenure of transition committee chairmen in the 21 Local Government Areas of the state for another three months.
DAILY POST gathered that it would be the fourth time the governor is renewing the tenure of the council bosses for three months each in the past two years.
A letter sent to the state house of assembly had appealed to the members of the assembly to pass them for another three months term.
The law permits the governor of the state to appoint transition committee chairmen for three months before the conduct of council election, but the local government areas have been run by appointees, because of non-conductbof election; just as the law permits the governor to renew their tenure until elections are conducted.
Acting on the governor’s letter, the Anambra State House of Assembly yesterday extended their tenure by three months during the committee of the whole.
According to the speaker, Mrs Rita Maduagwu, the House extended their tenure in line with the local government law, following a letter written to that effect by the State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano.
The lawmaker noted that the extension will give the chairmen opportunity to do more for their council areas.
She said the caretaker chairmen performed well within their limited resources, adding that there were no petitions against them to warrant their removal.
In a vote of thanks, the ransition Committee chairman Idemili North Local Government Area, Barrister Raphael Nnabuife, assured that they would continue to work with the House and the Executive Arm of Government to guarantee rapid development of the state.
