Rivers APC congress takes new toll, police detains Federal lawmaker, Wehioka

Report says security has been deployed at the Rivers State Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, along Moscow Road in Port Harcourt.

DAILY POST reports that armed policemen and other security operatives were mobilized to the area after some protesters became violent and vandalized the APC office.

Police have also picked up the member representing Emohua-Ikwerre Federal Constituency, Elder Chidi Wehioka.

The Rivers state Police Command is yet to explain why Wehioka was arrested.

Earlier, the leadership of the All Progressive Congress in Rivers State, had denied claims by a section of the party that materials for the local government congresses have been hijacked.

Reacting to a protest at the state secretariat of the party earlier today, the Publicity Secretary, Chris Finebone said those who made the allegations did so out of ignorance.

Finebone told newsmen that the State Working Committee had scheduled the commencement of sale of nomination forms once a delegation from the APC national secretariat charged with monitoring the exercise arrived in Port Harcourt.

The APC spokesman said the delegation from Abuja had their flight delayed, hence the exercise was rescheduled for later in the day.

However, the protesters, who were led by the State Deputy Chairman APC, Peter Odike, alleged that, “Some of their intending delegates had been deliberately deprived of the forms to participate in the congresses tomorrow.”

The APC protesters complained that the State Chairman and other officials were not at the secretariat to attend to them, less than twenty-four hours to the congresses.
