Ben Bruce, Senator representing Bayelsa East has reacted to the federal Government’s ban on the production of Codeine containing syrups in Nigeria.
DAILY POST reports that the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, on Tuesday directed the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, to ban with immediate effect further issuance of permits for the importation of codeine as active pharmaceutical ingredient for cough preparations.
Adewole said the directive became necessary due to the gross abuse of Codeine usage in the country.
However, reacting through his Twitter handle on Wednesday, Bruce said instead of banning codeine, Nigeria should ban the bad governance that made young people so desperate that they had nothing to look forward to in life.
He wrote, “Instead of banning codeine, Nigeria should ban the bad governance that makes young people so desperate that they have nothing to look forward to in life.
“We can’t keep insulting them for being uneducated when we don’t build schools or as lazy when we don’t provide jobs for them.”
