A 21-year-old Joseph Ibiri of the Delta state Marine school of Technology, Burutu, in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State was on Thursday found dead by Abradede River bank during nightfall.
It was gathered that the victim was of the Department of Natural sciences who allegedly associated himself with some questionable characters.
But the police spokesman in the state who confirmed the incident said the victim was said to have been sighted in the river before he was found dead by the bank, adding that investigation was ongoing.
DSP Aniamaka said that the victim’s Landlord’s statement had been taken by the police who visited the River bank to take photographs of the incident, and released the body to the parents.
But the victim’s father, chief Ibiri who spoke to DAILY POST said, “We will get to the root of how my son was found dead by the River bank. I will not bury him until I get to the root of the incident. My son is not a cultist. I’m shocked that the body was found by the bank of the River.”
Unconfirmed sources said the victim may have been killed by suspected cultists who later dumped his corpse by the River, while his close friend who did not want his name in the print said he died while swimming in the River, and was removed, and dumped there.
